Kim's passion for running began at the youth level and was nurtured under the influence of great coaches. She learned early in her career that the path to success is rooted in enjoying the process and the desire to seek continual improvement. Kim's desire to understand the mechanisms of that process led her to earn her bachelor's degree in Exercise Biology from the University of California, Davis.
Kim's coaching career began in 2009 after she graduated and became an assistant coach for the UC Davis Cross Country and Track teams. She simultaneously continued to chase her own running goals, and in 2012 she shocked the Track and Field world with a dramatic and unexpected 3rd place finish in the Olympic Trials women's 5000m, which earned her a berth to the London Olympics.
After London, Kim's professional running career took off and she stepped back from collegiate coaching to focus on training and racing. In the following years she won two national titles, returned to the Olympic stage in Rio, and won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games.
In 2021 Kim began coaching adult runners with McKirdy Trained. She has helped runners find the next level in their running ability across distances from the mile to the marathon. She loves sharing her passion for the sport with athletes all over the country and helping them discover the ways that running will enhance their lives.
